I did like it when put in it's wide sound field mode,but like other people mentioned,turning the radio off will cancel that setting and having to turn it back on can be somewhat of an annoyance.Bass is pretty decent sounding I'm sure some people will like the 765 for all it's options much like the high priced radios and be happy with it but it should be kept in a well ventilated area because of the heat it generates What amazes me about all these upper priced clock radio's is that most all radio manufactures still use old school technology for alarm mode, "radio/buzzer" take it or leave it, NO weekdays or weekend selection mode or no auto selectable shut-off radio/buzzer after alarm activation.I would have kept the 765 if that alarm feature was there in spite of my other dislikes of the 765 First, I did not like walking into my bedroom and smelling a very warm radio,On or Standby it doesn't matter.I did Radio TV Repair for 35 yrs and I never felt comfortably with the smell of hot electrical components.CD's left inside will become very warm also in a short period of time Second the upper treble range is not to my liking (cd or radio)even though the control is maxed out,It's still lacking too much in range for my me. I recently purchased the 765 but sent it back after 1 wk.or so.I used it everyday and I did liked the way it looked.It had enough buttons in an organized layout for quick access to many of its options but I decided to go HD with the Polk for a better upper frequency range,even though it has less options. I've never heard the Polk but I'm sure it will have better treble range After using the radio I kept trying to convince myself that I love this Radio.Unfortunately there was two things I could not make myself like about the 765.
But the CD player does not play CD's which are hi-def. (As an example, certain Bruce Springsteen, Chris Isack, David Brubeck).
Very disappointing. So you have this great system, but literally can't play some of your cd's.
Very disappointed with one feature on product. So some of our CD's will not play at all.
I am going to return this unit. Overall great system.
I confirmed this with the tech support at Cambridge Soundworks.
The i765 is one of the better sounding and looking designs for this
Close, but I'll keep looking. There are more out there than you think. Nice sound for it's size. Will not play any HDCD processed cds.
I'll never give Cambridge Soundworks my business again-I sought them purely because of their reputation and I am completely disappointed. So, I'm calling my purchase a dud quite frankly, and I don't feel comfortable selling this piece of junk on ebay-who would want it. There was no explanation for the skipping, and they weren't willing to do anything about it.
I bought it to replace a workhorse Sony compact system that finally wore out. At this point the 30 day warranty had expired. I ordered this from the Cambridge Soundworks website (sorry, Amazon) in December 2008.
Three phone calls to Cambridge Soundworks customer service resulted in three different answers (not the most competent crew I've dealt with), culminating in my discovery that this model does NOT play HD formatted discs (CD or DVD); it is not designed to do this and CSW doesn't tell you this in its advertising info. Don't buy it-it's garbage. I didn't need the alarm clock, DVD or ipod feature-I bought it to play CDs and radio.
I have a fairly extensive CD collection and enjoyed testing them out on my new purchase until I discovered it wasn't playing certain CDs, and was also skipping randomly.
